Psalm 119:25 (NASB)
“My soul cleaves to the dust, revive me according to Your word.”
from John 1:14 (NASB)
“And the word became flesh and dwelt among us…”
Indeed, my soul does cleave to the dust, sometimes in despair and discouragement, which I think is what the author was saying here, but my soul often “cleaves to the dust” in the sense of thinking or feeling according to what is natural or even carnal. I don’t mean lust or some obvious sin issue, I mean thinking in a way that does not reflect the fact that God is big, and powerful, and that He loves me. Cleaving to the dust is like living numb, dumb, and blind to His presence. Instead, “…grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (from John 1:17)
