The Promise of the Spirit

John 16:7-11

“Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth, it is to your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away, the Counselor will not come to you.  If I go, I will send Him to you.  When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgement: about sin, because they do not believe in Me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me; and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”

About sin: because everything hinges upon each person’s relationship with Him.  All is built upon that, and all is for nothing without it.

About righteousness: the Spirit is promised to be as real and present and effective as Jesus Himself walking the earth in the flesh to guide us into all righteousness.  In fact, Jesus said that it is “to your benefit” that He goes and the Counselor comes.  Let that statement soak in.

About judgement: the ruler of this world has been judged.  It is set.  You are victorious in Christ Jesus.  You are and it is.  Claim the victory in the present tense.  Colossians 2:15 says, “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him.”
