You Can’t Do It Alone

“What you’re doing is not good,’ Moses’ Father in Law said to him.  ‘You will certainly wear out both yourself and these people who are with you, because the task is too heavy for you. You can’t do it alone…”

-Exodus 18:18-19

“Then the Twelve summoned the whole company of the disciples and said, ‘It would not be right for us to give up preaching about God to wait tables.  Therefore, brothers, select from among yourselves seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and wisdom, whom we can appoint to this duty.  But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the preaching ministry.”

-Acts 6:2-4

*A quick note about Acts 6:4; a few other translations (NASB, KJV, NKJV) say “ministry of the word” rather than “preaching ministry”.  I believe this is an important note because I don’t want to force what the text says into the conceptual box of what we are familiar with today.
