Deviating from Peace

“Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and they hid themselves from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.”
– Genesis 3:8

It fascinates me that, after the man and woman ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, that God did not swoop right in and declare judgement. Instead, He continued in the rythym of His routine, and it was the newly fallen man who deviated from that simplicity. God’s first response was a simple question; “Where are you?”

This verse makes me reconsider an over-simplified version of those story: that man sinned, and God judged. It also causes me consider the nature of the knowledge of good and evil functions, how it drove the man to deviate from God’s peace and order.
